October: Ancestor Mask-Making Extravaganza
An In-Person, Two-Day Ceremonial Crafting Workshop
& Samhain Ritual
After a 13-year gap, we are excited to step back into our favorite ritual art-making workshop for October, Samhain/Halloween. We will guide you in making what we call "an ancestor mask,” but in truth, it is a sacred vessel packed with prayers to heal and honor your ancestors.
Workshop Details
- Dates: Saturday, October 17th - Sunday, October 18th, 2026
- Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. each day
- Location: TBA (South Minneapolis)
- Mid-Process Zoom (Optional): Wednesday, October 21st at 6:30 p.m. (A mid-point check-in to share progress, ask questions, and get inspiration as you finish your mask)
- Capacity: Limited to 12 participants
The Crafting Process
This process is simple, intuitive, and filled with discovery, laughter, and ritual power. You will focus less on creating a perfect art piece and more on collaborating directly with the spirit of the ancestors and the mask itself. No previous artistic skill or experience is needed.
- In Class (Oct 17 - 18): Over our two days together, you will build the raw base of your mask using paper-mâché while infusing it with prayers. Ahead of class and throughout the weekend, we will explore symbolism and visioning to help you map out the spirit and energy of your mask.
- At Home (Post-Weekend): You will complete the final artistic touches on your own using whatever materials call to you (paints, glitter, feathers, cloth, or found objects). Upon registration, we will send you inspirational ideas to help you gather your materials. Part of your work should involve putting your mask on in front of a mirror at home and letting it speak. We will guide you through that process.
Priority Registration & The Samhain Fire Ritual
Because of the deep ceremonial nature of this project, priority registration will be given to participants who agree to create their mask AND bring it to our live Ancestor Healing, Celebration & Gratitude Ceremony on Friday, October 30th (Location: TBA South Minneapolis). We will expect about 30 people to be present at that ceremony.
At this live event and drum circle, you will be invited to wear your mask, carry it, or "dance your ancestor" as part of our collective ritual. And you will be invited to offer your mask to the fire as a blessing to all ancestors. Full details regarding the drum circle ceremony will be provided upon registration.
Space is strictly limited to 12 to ensure an intimate experience. Register early to secure your spot.
