Drumming Circles

Drumming the Soul Awake began in 1999 with a focus on drumming circles. I had picked up my first drum 15 years earlier and the spiritual power of the drum transformed my life.


While my work has broadened into many kinds of shamanic healing and shamanic training, drumming circles continue to be an important component of service for me, and they are an easy way for you to get to know my work. Drum circles raise spiritual energies, bring in healing and joy, and open your connections to earth energies. We ask Spirit to drum with and through us!


At Drumming the Soul Awake, our drum circles are loosely connected to the eight spokes on the Celtic medicine wheel (solstices and equinoxes, and the midpoints between each) for about eight drum circles each year.


Drumming Circles at Drumming the Soul Awake

Within our drumming circles, you will find a warm, welcoming, open environment with a lot of fun, cool people. We welcome all drums, rattles, and wahoo-makers, as well as all drummers and dancers at all experience levels. Sometimes people show up with melody instruments - flutes, violins, etc...and that brings wahoo!


  • You'll find a pile of drums to borrow from if you don't have one. Pick any that look fun!


  • You'll typically see 20-30 smiling drummers ready to have groovelicious fun.


  • You'll quickly feel at home, and any nervousness you had will vanish. 


  • You'll begin drumming. In a few seconds, your stress will diminish, an inner smile will work its way up through you, and you'll feel connected to the Big Love, the quantum flux, the Great Song of the universe. Yes, it's true. 


  • You may feel yourself wanting to dance - and so, dance: wildly, calmly, reverently, or whoopingly.


At Drumming the Soul Awake, we schedule drumming circles several times each year, specifically during the Spring Equinox, Fall Equinox, Summer Solstice, and Winter Solstice.

What Are Drumming Circles.

Drumming circles are communal and improvisational groups in which several drummers come together to connect with the spirit of ancestors through music. The drum is a living thing connected to our past. In fact, there is not a person alive on earth who does not have an ancestor at some point in their history who used a drum. 


When the drum starts beating in a circle, it tells the group what it wants, what to do, and fills the room with the spirit it wants in the moment. When the groove arrives, the spirit is playing the music through the drummers. It’s one of the most powerful spiritual experiences.
