Shamanic Practitioner's Training
Apprenticeship-Style Study of Shamanic Healing Techniques

Picture

This shamanic practitioner's training is designed to give you palpable shamanic healing skills, put them safely into practice, and get your specific questions, doubts, confusions and fears addressed through open discussion with trusted colleagues. Questions: drummingthesoulawake@gmail.com
This training is more like an apprenticeship than a workshop or class. Some of the current students have been in the training for more than four years. Others are very new to shamanic healing and to this training group. Currently the group is 10. Maximum is 12.

Some kinds of current students:
  • Someone who has been walking the shamanic path for a long time, has been "journeying" for years, taken many workshops including workshops in healing techniques. From this program they seek to learn new skills, refine their practice and gain real experience.
  • Someone who wants to integrate shamanic techniques into their practice. Examples: massage therapist, acupuncturist, family therapist, nurse, healing touch practitioner and Reiki practitioner.
  • Someone who has powerful yearnings to learn healing techniques and is relatively new to shamanic practice.

We spend a several class sessions focusing on a specific technique, skill, or tool. This is accompanied by underlying disciplined prayer and meditation practices. Students practice on each other in class and in the monthly healing clinic, and sometimes in larger events like drum circles. I won't ask you (or allow you) to work on others until I feel your are ready - but please be prepared for me to put you in the hot seat, to push your comfort zone.

The regularity and consistency of class times (every other Thursday evening) and the hands-on practice intensifies your learning. It creates a potent community in which the ever-present doubts and insecurities with this work can truly be addressed and dispelled.

The core of shamanic healing - and what separates it from other forms of energy or spiritual healing - is your relationship with helping spirits and your ability to work in non-ordinary realms of reality. We will do some of this work inside class time, but you'll need to do ongoing work on these skills outside of class. If you are new at either of those, you will want to work with me outside of class.
  • You must have some familiarity with spirit helpers, and you should be familiar with the Medicine Wheel. You should have done plenty of "shadow work" such as therapy or other formalized ways of uncovering your least pleasant personal traits and working with them. You should be ready to adopt an ongoing prayer or meditation practice. If you feel unsure about your readiness in any of these areas, I suggest you work with me in advance, or look at my classes.
  • Commitment and desire to be a quality, ethically sound, grounded practitioner. I think the world needs healers, but we don't need people who call themselves healers before they are actually ready.
  • Total commitment to confidentiality with clients and other students and to being a healthy participant in a trusting learning community.
  • Understanding that I won't let you work on clients until I feel you are ready.

If you have not read and worked with the book Transforming Your Dragons (José Luis Stevens), you will need to read it and work with its exercises at the beginning of your studies with me.  I will also suggest other books for you to read throughout the year.
