Meeting the the Dark Mother (the 12th year)
September 27 - 30 (Thursday 6 PM - Sunday noon)
NOTE: There a couple of spots left for this retreat, in shared rooms.
This is a life-altering, initiatory retreat in which we delve into the Celtic Shamanic tradition of the Cauldron of Transformation and the Goddess who oversees the cauldron.

"This is magic, the kind all us average and plain folks can perform and come away smelling of smoke and edged with fire. Jaime facilitated with respect and insight-- and his own trademark wahoo. I will never forget weeping in the grave dug with my own hands. It was an encounter of the most visceral kind; wordless, painful and healing. This is ritual of the most useful kind... it lingers on into my every day." --JB
This retreat is simple in structure and powerful in the work that happens. With plenty of ritual preparation for safety and clarity of your intention, calling on the helping powers of the land, water and fire, with healing songs and drumming, "re-patterning" shamanic work, you will ceremonially leave behind the old life and welcome the new life that is opening for you.
You may choose to be ritually buried in the sand on the beach - that place in-between water and land, in between dream and waking, in-between this world and the other world - where Spirit can come and do its work to release your old pattern and embed your new pattern, to lead you out of the old life that is ending to the new life that is emerging.
This is work of "letting go," of becoming "unstuck," of being cleansed of spiritual and emotional toxins, of ritually establishing the "clean break" necessary in healing, of creating a mythic container that marks your moving from that life that is ending into the next life that is beginning. For some, this experience is accompanied by fear and grieving, and sometimes by other emotions that have been pushed down in order to wait for the safe, right time to let them go. This is that safe, right time. It begins in this, the darkening part of the year, for all life begins in darkness, in gestation. For others, this is a joyous culmination of an initiatory journey they've been on for awhile.
Who is the Dark Mother?
Friday night's storytelling and ceremony focuses on the image of the "Dark Mother." She is the transformative power of autumn, a goddess figure appearing in every culture - suppressed and repressed in our culture. She is the One who comes to take away what needs to be taken, the one who comes to disassemble the current energy, the current identity, to cleanse, select and add in new pieces so that you can become your next shape. She is the tears that well up whenever you think about that one thing. She is the song of deep earth-mother power locked away in your abdomen - the song this or that person does not want you to summon. She is the one who comes to shred you when you refuse and refuse refuse to let yourself be transformed. She is present in what you are told to fear. When she is denied, she comes as a storm; when repressed, she appears as neurosis, anxiety, depression and lashing out. When safely, ceremonially welcomed, she comes bearing a new life, new possibilities and opened doors to a new you. To connect to the power of the Dark Mother is to give yourself a lifeline to the great unnamable, unclaimable, untamable creative Spirit that guides you to your authentic powers.

Crow Wing Crest Lodge near Akeley, Minnesota (about a 3.5 hour drive north of the Twin Cities). The Star Tribune calls Crow Wing Crest “one of the five best resorts in Minnesota.” We will likely have the whole resort to ourselves. We do our ritual work on the beach (pictured above) in the giant sauna, on the land, and in the lodge with the giant fireplace. The owners, Kim and Big John, are "people of the drum" and love that we do ritual work on the land. Each cabin has real beds, full kitchens and bathrooms. The first 8 paid reservations are guaranteed private rooms.
"For me this retreat was a gentle cleansing and awakening into new levels of gifts and understanding. There was also a magic with the people at the retreat. I had many synchronistic conversations throughout the retreat. Jaime has a way of creating a call for those to gather and connect for divine healing and transformation. Two weeks after the retreat, I feel like a different person. i am back to a healthy routine (2-3hours of yoga/day) and eating what works best for me. I feel a greater sense of freedom and clarity. " -- LA
"I would encourage anyone hoping for a renewed sense of purpose to come to this retreat, be open minded and be ready for a transformation." --SH
"The dark mother retreat, was for me, a dismemberment. What was I holding on to...what was holding on to me? This small and intimate group wove our stories; unraveling bits and finding behind them our own truths; some hidden from our understanding for a long time. We took steps into our own humanity as we sank into the dark mother's divinity. The tenderness, the vulnerability, the willingness to be big, the ability to see the small...the bawdy jokes. The delicious food. This is magic." -JB
"I went to the Dark Mother Retreat as a matter of circumstances coming together- cosmic timing. This happening at a time when I was grieving a life that I had attained, and had perceived would last for many more years. That is not the growth pattern that needs to happen for my relationship. The time in the "womb" was regenerating for me, the rituals were not so rigid as to make me uncomfortable, the drumming, as drumming always does, vibrated into my soul and helped it heal. This experience was an important part of my healing process, which truthfully took until this summer. Now, I am stronger than I have ever been. This relationship will continue, but in a greatly different and still healthy way. I am strong enough to be part of this." --KJR
