The Portable House of the Holy: Rattle Making
February 21 and 22 (Friday 7-10PM / Saturday 10AM-3PM)
February 21 and 22 (Friday 7-10PM / Saturday 10AM-3PM)
Location of the workshop: Jaime's House of Wonder, 4227 Lyndale Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55409

The rattle has its own immense and nuanced powers for your practice. The rattle is is a tool for journeying to the other world, for seeing energies, for gathering power, for cleansing, and for protection. It may be your lifelong friend and teacher.
You will build a rattle out of deer hide. We will do a great deal of ceremony to all the spirits involved in this process. You will ceremonially infuse your rattle with power, love, and purpose. On Friday night we create the rattle-making shrine, sing songs and ask for permission and skill to build our rattles. We humble ourselves to the power of the animal, water, air and earth that will shape the rattle. We cut the shapes, sew the rattles, fill them with dry sand and let them dry overnight on the shrine. Saturday we put in the sound and power (beads, rocks, seeds, prayers, breath, song, and whatever else needs to go in) and we attach the handles.

You will make a basic, unadorned. It can be two-sided (most common), three sided (more Celtic), or free-form (difficult and not recommended.) There are a thousand ways to then personalize and beautify your rattle. I'll offer you some ideas after you register, but you'll want to think about it, and bring materials if you want to customize your rattle, or customize it at home after the workshop. You can supply your own handle, or you can buy a handle from me (see the drop-down menu in the Buy Now button).
