In Mpls we meet at First UNiversalist Church, 34th and Dupont Ave. South, near Uptown (Map). Parking lot on the south side of the church, enter the door, go down the little stairs, follow the sound of wahoo. In St. Paul we meet at The Saint Paul Council of Curches Building, 1671 Summit Avenue, Saint Paul, MN, three blocks west of Snelling on Summit. (Map). Drumming starts at 7 and goes till about 9:30. Arrive 15 minutes early for a little drum lesson and practice. Don't stress about being a little late, but we can't let people in aftert 8.  All are welcome! All are welcome!

The Book

"Your book is stunning, Jaime. Thoughful, insightful, practical and poetic at the same time, honest, brave, and, unlike any other book on shamanism, laugh out loud funny! Thank you!"  -Jeanne

Welcome to you, oh wild wanderers  on the road of  wonder, you who  know you are  bigger than your worries, bigger than your envies, bigger than your fears. Welcome, seekers after the heartbeat of the deep. Oh open-armed lovers of the pulse of life, welcome. To you, of the immense tribe of the Spiritual But Not Religious, and to you who seek to love this awesome earth, who want beauty even more than you want money, welcome! And welcome to you who yearn to live your days drawing on a source of love, curiosity and wonder rather than fear and obedience. Welcome, welcome to you who ache to learn the next verse of “Oran Mor,” the “great song” of the universe. Welcome one and all to  Drumming The Soul Awake.

Drumming starts at 7 PM. Don't stress over being a little late. The evening goes until about 9:30. There are all kinds of drums in the room from all kinds of traditions. We welcome all drums, rattles and wahoo-makers, all drummers and all drumming experience levels! Sometimes people show up with melody instruments, and that brings happiness. If you'd rather dance than drum, come and dance, because that brings happiness too. It's not a  wide open drum jam - I facilitate lightly, suggesting rhythms and teaching whatever needs to be taught. But, the core of our drumming is that we allow the spirit of the drum to come and sweep us away, and "play through us." So I only step in when I need to.  There is a suggested donation of $15. However please don’t let money be an obstacle. If the drum is  calling to you, come and pay what you can.

The drumming lasts for about 90 minutes or, as I like to say "until we are ready." We take a short break for snacks and conversation with fellow drummers, then the second part of the evening is more directly ceremonial, meditative, prayerful, or shamanic - whichever word you wish to use. We include the break  between the two parts so that those who want the drumming but don't want the ceremony may exit without feeling they are put on the spot. The best way to understand what happens at these drumming events is to come and try it out, or read some of Jaime's blog posts.
