IN-person Personal Session
An in-person session is typically 60 minutes. A phone session is typically 30 minutes. In both we'll chat for a short time and I'll offer you a shamanic perspective on the issue you are working on. Then I'll do my work:
I will likely use tobacco to cleanse negative energies (a tradition from my teachers in the Amazon). Then I will drum for you and consult the spirit world by "journeying" (drumming and entering shamanic consciousness). The session may involve drumming, rattling, singing, flute playing, feathers, tobacco smoke or other smoke and fragrances. Let me know if you are allergic or don't want smoke or fragrance - we can work around it. I give you suggestions for work you can do on your own after our session (prayers, ceremonies, meditations, readings, artistic work or other ritual tasks).
Below is a list of kinds of healings that may happen. Please keep in mind that each session is unique to your needs, questions, issues and what the Spirits have to say. Also, please keep in mind that this is not a menu for you to choose from. You may feel a deep resonance with one of the activities below, but Spirit will make the decisions on what is needed. Some of the work below can be accomplished in one session. Some of it takes more than one meeting. If that is the case, I'll create a clear work plan for you with total fees and timeline. I will not surprise you.
Cleansing of toxic, negative or misplaced energies, releasing old patterns
No matter what other work we do, we will do this work, whether in-person or on the phone. We collect negative energy all the time, just by moving through daily stressful life. Often we are able to cleanse it on our own - we "shake it off." But often we need help to release it. Anger, shame, regret, humiliation, loss, heartbreak - on and on the list goes of energies that can cling to us. Cleansing is the most basic shamanic healing and involves the use of drum, rattle, song and tobacco. It concludes with a blessing of power, protection, beauty and love poured over, around and through you with song and drum or rattle. It's a beautiful and helpful experience. I typically use tobacco in this work.
Soul Retrieval/Power Retrieval
When people hear the term "soul retrieval" they often instantly recognize its meaning for them. They understand that "soul loss" is an apt description of so much that they feel in themselves and see in the world. In shamanic cosmology, the soul is an energy field, the animating life force that is inside us and that also extends beyond the physical boundary of the body. The soul is what connects us to the entire cosmos, it is the part of us that collects, carries, translates and transmits the wisdom of the Spirit to us and through us. When traumatized, the soul may splinter or disassociate from the body as a way of surviving.
Trauma is a relative term to each person, and it takes many forms. Not every trauma produces soul loss, and a trauma that might produce significant soul loss for one person may leave another unaffected. Physical, emotional and sexual violence are certainly traumas, as are physical accidents, sudden frights, sustained illness or humiliation. Divorce, job loss, bankruptcy, big change, sustained stress and sudden realizations of a new reality can produce soul loss. Even successful surgery can create soul loss merely because it opens the physical boundaries of the body.
As you may see, our modern world is full of psychic, spiritual, and emotional influences that can create loss of vital energy. Carl Jung, the great psychologist agrees with my indigenous teachers on one thing: all of western industrial culture suffers with soul loss because of its hundreds of years of intentional separation from the healing and soothing powers of nature, its inability to properly grieve and properly praise the Great Mystery. More on Jung and shamanism...
Soul loss creates a variety of symptoms in our daily lives including listlessness, lack of power, confusion, anger, depression, fear, immune deficiency, chronic illness, and a sense of not being "all there."
Power Animal/Guardian Spirit/Spirit Teacher Retrieval
Each of us has allies in the spirit world that care about us and are working with us and on us to advance our wisdom; who heal us and to protect us from spiritual harm. This healing includes instruction in how to call back, summon and nurture an ongoing, ever-deepening relationship with the otherworldly helper and protector.
Extraction is required when some kind of energetic intrusion or attachment has lodged in you and won't leave in its own. This is deeper work than cleansing This work is also tied to Removal of Curses. As fairy tale-like as that phrase sounds, the fact is that humans place energetic curses on one another regularly, from "giving the finger" to another driver to negative gossip, to flame wars on Facebook, to relationships in your life that have been filled with anger or silent resentment. A classic definition of "curse" is "that which shrinks or severs your relationship with Beauty or with the Sacred." Example: parenting can be full of unconscious curses, and in my work I have seen adults who as children were raised in a family with a great deal of judgment and now carry the "curse" of a constant, grinding sense of worthlessness.
Ancestor Healing is called for when our life is disrupted by ancestral patterns, or by ancestral calling that need to be attended to. This healing often includes instructions for you on how to make prayers and offerings to the ancestors to nourishes and heals them (which heals your life too).
An Initiation Ritual is needed when you are crossing from one identity to another, or during a significant life change. This work may involve any of the healing work listed above, or may be an initiation that you did not receive when you were young. This work takes place over several weeks or months.
Asking the spirit world for its perspective on your issue or question is called divination. This may be done through drumming, or by using my prayer cloth and various objects tossed onto the cloth. The result may (or may not) involve a suggested ceremonial task for you to do after the session.
"...medical science has identified the primary systems of the human body as the circulatory system, digestive system, endocrine system, autonomic nervous system, parasympathetic nervous system, and the immune system. However two other systems are also central to the proper functioning of a human being: the healing system and the belief system. The two work together. The healing system is the way the body mobilizes all of its resources to combat disease while the belief system is the activator of the healing system."
