  Drumming The Soul Awake

Lughnasadh Drum Circle
and Ceremony of Blessing the River (and all life)
Saturday, August 10 6 PM -  Sundown / Hidden Falls Park, St Paul
North Gate Entrance (near Magoffin Ave. Note: North Gate, not south gate!)

Join us for another year of Groovelicious Rhythmocity (drumming, dancing, revelry and ceremony) to bid farewell to the Old Man Fire of summer, to thank Mother Earth for the harvest, and to praise the love between them. We will then honor the life-giving Mississippi River and summon the powers of Love, Hope and Optimism into our bodies, hearts and minds.

Lughnasadh (pronounced LOO-nuh-suh) is the midpoint between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox. It's a major spoke on the Celtic wheel of the year - it begins the transition from the south/summer to the west/autumn, and is called the time of the first fruits, when the harvest begins to come in. If you feel the revelry of summer and the harvest, and at the same time, feel that gnawing sense that summer doesn't have much time left - that’s a Lughnasadh feeling. Wahoo!

Schedule:
Feel free to arrive any time after 4 to revel in the park. Flinging frisbees, flitting flutes and fearless fiddles are welcome. And guileless guitars. You get the message: be merrily musical if you want.

6 PM: Community drumming formally begins.

6:30: Ceremony of blessing Earth, Sun and Waters, and the honoring marriage of the sacred masculine and sacred feminine. Then we move to the river to Bless the Mother of Waters.
8:15 - dusk: drumming, dancing, communal, ebullient wahoo.

Consider bringing with you:
  • Water to drink.
  • A blanket/lawn chair and snacks if you want.
  • Flowers - for the flower altar we will build together.
  • Drums and rattles and other wahoo makers. (You can also borrow from the pile of drums there, so don't worry if you don't have a drum or rattle).
  • Mostly, bring a desire to honor the "Mighty Ones" - the Spirit(s) of this beautiful earth.

What about rain?
We have the shelter at Hidden Falls rented starting at 4. It's rained the last two years (and was bright and sunny the five previous years!) The ceremonies are powerful no matter what the weather. This ceremony will happen, rain or shine.

Cost:
There's a suggested donation of $20. Please don't let money keep you away - come and pay what you want. Wahoo!

Let us remember who we are as human beings. That we are not what we own or what we buy. We are not the costume we put on in order to make a living. We are souls on a a strange human journey. We are sacred ocean poured into a fragile container to take a land journey. We  are connected to one another and we are brothers and sisters to the crawling, leaping, swimming, soaring, winding, fluttering and gleaming beings of this world, and also to the flowing, flowering, forceful energies, seen and unseen.

Look, and look again.
This world is not just a little thrill for the eyes.

It's more than bones.
It's more than the delicate wrist with its personal pulse.
It's more than the beating of the single heart.
It's praising.
It's giving until the giving feels like receiving.
You have a life—just imagine that!
You have this day, and maybe another, and maybe
   still another.
